Story

A very creative collaboration between the three of us. It was about 6 weeks work in total, from conception to completion. We chose this particular SID & subtune quite quickly, (that's usually NOT the case with co-op's) and we felt there was enough room within the SID for all three of us to flex our individual, creative muscles and incorporate our three, very different styles. The biggest worry was that we'd end up with three mini-remixes because our styles are so different. Lot's of internet activity over the next 6 weeks tried to ensure that we were all making the same remix. A mammoth amount of chit-chat between Sweden & the UK kept us heading in the same direction & singing from the same page. Ideas for each others parts & arrangements were plentiful and contrary to what you might expect, they flowed in all 3 directions.

Once we had finished our own parts, we had 52 individual audio-stems to mix and master. Peter took on the task of putting his 'Epic Orchestra' together with Princess Boom's synths and huge drums & Slaygon's unique, percussion-based outro. We all feel it came out as the single-remix we wanted, (it could have missed by a mile).

So, here you are! A unique remix which takes Thomas Detert's original SID to a new place, for sure; and tells a story which has changing moods & atmosphere from start to finish. We were delighted to achieve 3rd place in the SLAY / AROK remix competition. It will be good to read comments & feedback from the community here on RKO / Remix64 and maybe discover a bit more about why people voted for us in the competition, (or didn't).

As always.. All feedback is welcome!

..and just for fun.. Can you pick each of us out of the remix…?

Welcome to the movie :)
The backing and the percussion is very good but the lead is a little tinny and weak. Doesn't seem to fit really. It's very good mind.
Another musical journey with peter clarke. I hear the other players and it all works beautifully together. I love the way the soundscape changes.
Wow! You guys better be careful not being 'asked' to get a permit from the community before being allowed to submit more entries in that trio -> Puts each of your best sides into a complete package of awesomeness! <3 @3:30 - SO Slaygons part!;)
I can't remember the game but wow what a score! . If this great track is 3rd place what is 2nd and 1st in the remix competition.
You guys should absolutely keep up the work together the harmony between the 3 styles of music takes me on a journey
Excellent collaboration! Thank you very much for this Remix, ziona, Slaygon and Peter Clarke!:)
The synths don't really have the punch I want, they really need to be front and center, orchestra sounds good. Overall a nice atmosphere. Dat Slaygon tho.. @3:30 my jam.
I don't know...
The more I listen to this track, it just gets Better & Better :) Great work Guys...

The track notes tell an interesting story and the remix lives up to the story. Well Done ziona, slaygon & peter clarke. This is a really powerful & moody journey. The sound is flawless to me and it has blended into one complete tale.

I have a policy of not commenting on tunes that remix SID tunes I'm not very familiar with. But from time to time a remix comes up that's so good, I just have to make an exception for it. This is one of those times.

The individual pieces sewn together really work to its advantage, bringing us on an epic cinematic experience. I suspect the organ-heavy intro is Peter's making, transitioning to ziona's part at around 1:30, then going back and forth a little between Peter and ziona, with the tune so obviously concluding with Slaygon's darker tones. I hope I got that right. 😉

Even though the remix quickly fades out, I suspect that's mostly due to the 2020 Árok remix compo's 4:30 time limit, because it feels like this could've been a lot longer.

Either way, a superb auditory experience, I really enjoy this, guys & gals!

When I first heard this in the compo I found it difficult to appreciate fully… a tune often takes a few listens before you begin to appreciate it, and I didn't know the SID either. So now it's a remix 64, I've managed that, and have to say it's beautiful. A lovely intro is followed by some absolutely perfect synth n bass. The bassline in particular is tremendous, and the drums suit perfectly. What a great SID tune and amazing remix. My only critique would be the join between the orchestral and synth part… and the cut short ending… surely this epic deserves a proper ending. Brilliant effort by all involved.
