Story

I started remixing one of my favorite sids with a few goals in mind;

  1. Clarity
  2. A managed sub bass (everything else was cut out / ducked in the frequency range up to 60 Hz )
  3. Experimenting with the use of reference tracks
  4. Experimenting with multi band compression

I'm happy with the results of 1, 3 and 4 but not sure about 2. Any feedback would be great. The kick for example may be lacking in depth because of this.

 

The arrangement was more or less ready at the beginning of this month (October 2022) and the rest of the days were spent on mixing, EQ'ing and mastering.

 

Then I realized that I started EQ'ing the traits of people around me in my dreams. That's when I decided to surrender, yesterday.

Some great ideas and sounds in here, gives the impression that everything is totally under your control, it’s tight. As for the low end, I wonder if you’re eq’ing it away, trying to get a clean mix? There’s plenty of room for that bass to dig deeper.

Excellent choice to remix and the arrangement! The sub requires some Kick-Oomph +2dB atleast imo and make it 3, 5 minute long then it is just perfect!

This is so true to the original! However it is too short. I also agree that the low end is slightly lacking - perhaps increase your sidechained compression to the kick, that way you could add more volume and "pump" without clipping.

Great track! Clarity: Mission accomplished. But your are right Oxx! There's a lack of bass foundation. So the kick and the bass sound a bit dull. Maybe too much low cut filter. Or try a different kick drum and/or bass with more punch. But overall it's a matter of taste if you want more depth and warmth. The lead synth starting at 0:44 is really sounding great. Sharp and clear. The same at 0:57 2nd synth. The snare and claps fitting very good. I like your track very much.

I really dig this. This would be a really good dancey version of this tune, but it's marred by a mix that sounds a bit too thin. As others have mentioned, probably due to the lack of low end. Otherwise, the arrangement gets a lot of things right and manages to breathe new life into this classic tune.
