Bros intro (M.A.C.C.) - arranged by Terminal StormReview by Jeroentel, 30/05/2013 When I started to compose Commodore 64 music I never contemplated that it would have this impact on the world. I was a kid just doing what I loved doing and played around with music on the Commodore 64 SID chip. When a remix tune like this appears I get excited and the kid in me gets goosebumps. I applaud this tune for it's remix value and danceability. Great melodies and awesome beats. Thank you TStorm for taking the time and effort! 😊 |

Tristesse - arranged by MordiReview by Alucard, 01/04/2013 This one is difficult to jugde… Technically, this is top notch. In interpretation, use of instrumentation, executing them the right way and mixing them together. Even the clear and transparent production adds up to it. Personally, for my taste it is too much stuffed with this wahwahish flanging lead synth. A little bit less of it here and there would have added greatly to the atmosphere of the song. Although the music isnt really my side of town, i admit that to judge this song fairly i have to put back my personal taste and rely on the overall outstanding technichal part instead. And for that alone, you get the top notch. I hereby confess i listened to a bunch of Mordi RMXes now and if there is a clearer contestant to ROTY i havent found him yet… 😉 |

I am not a remixer, just a humble user listening to some great music here.The intro doesnt keep up with the part that begins after it. A little more precision in timing would have been nice. But thats criticism on a high level…comes outta my boxes juicy as hell… and the female spoken parts should have been extended in the rest of the RMX! This piece made me tap my toes in rhythm. Great work on the dominant drums, extremely spacy feeling with the synths. Two minutes into the remix the really outstanding part begins… those out of this world intergalactic synths made me feel like i am dancing between the stars… pure eargasm. I am writing as a humble listener and i enjoyed your work. Great stuff. Thumbs up! |

The kick drum has such a punch, it hurt my stomach even thru the headphones! In a good way! 😊The raspy lead instrument is a bit off-putting. I am not a fan of the arrangement, either, maybe I need to listen to it more to appreciate it. BTW, did I mention I love the punch of its kickass kick? 😊 |

However there is this problem again - wrong notes and modified harmonies. The latter is propably a matter of taste and its the choice of the author. A more faithful realization would do your tracks some good though. |

Outrun Europe Levels Extended Euromix - arranged by PhekkisReview by LaLa, 03/02/2013 I really dig the space disco style of this remix. This is also definitely better mixed than the 1st version you submitted to RKO.My most favorite part of this remix is 3:07-3:21 (which also gets repeated a few times later), that chord progressions is spot on. Maybe the drums could be stronger, I think the snares are especially weak. I like the arrangement overall, it doesn't get boring at all despite its length. The more I listen to this, the more I like it! |

A Trace of Space - arranged by MordiReview by drm, 01/02/2013 Why do I like this track?Well it ticks all the right boxes for me in what an electronic piece of music should sound like. First off there is the lead - it has not been programmed to sound flat and lifeless - it's got a lot of expression in there. The little frills also add character to the lead. The chords in this track are interesting too and make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! This remix also has a nod to it's roots by having the 8 bit sounding staccato arp sound running throughout the remix and I like the way it's developed in the fade out - something most remixers would probably have overlooked by just letting it run and fade. I also think this is an outstanding track in that it manages to marry the sound of Jarre and Vangelis in just 3m:22sec. In fact when I first heard the beta release of this I thought Mordi had found an unreleased bootleg Vangelis track! Well done Mordi I hope one day I can do a remix as good as this one. This is staying on my MP3 player and best of all it was free!! |

I hope those strange notes were intentional, because they produce quite the tension, and that's something to put to good use. If they were a mistake… I have some bad news for you… |

Monty, you have taken a classic composition and made it into something really special. It has a BIG and unusual sound, keeping the original intentions by the composer. It reminded me of quite the collection of MOD/XM/S3M/IT songs I had started a few years ago, they were all from the 90's and preferably around '95.What I did notice was that the main instruments lacked some stereo image, and then the clicks, along with what omoroca said about the excessive reverb. Even so, the lack of stereo image was also one thing to remind me of these particularly heart-warming and nostalgic Modules I had first mentioned. Unlike hbasm, I would have loved a long loop of this one. Keep it up~! ♥ |

Stormlord (Cinematic RMX) - arranged by Nicklas SchmidtReview by LaLa, 14/09/2012 This remix doesn't really tell a story, and thus, it doesn't feel epic. I think the root of the problem is that it's lacking in the arrangement department - it feels like a bunch of (otherwise excellent) symphonic samples were stitched together without much thought. There's no cohesion and it's short on emotions - it just doesn't seem to have its act together. To me the highlight of this remix is the quieter part of 1:32-1:47. There are plenty of emotions in those 15 seconds. The part between 2:34 and 3:05 also shows promise, although I think the buildup is architected somewhat haphazardly and thus, it also feels incomplete. Much like the entire remix which ends abruptly not long after that. Symphonic arrangements are a tough cookie, this remix makes an admirable attempt at it, but ultimately, it falls short. The samples are great, the mix is pretty good, the instruments are well-chosen - but it needs a better arrangement. |

It's madly fast - just like the original!Here's the second thing I really like about this remix: it's live (mostly). In fact, it's -a-live: you can taste that it's people playing great music for people who are willing to listen. Here's what I don't like about this remix: the mix sounds a bit overcompressed to me. Maybe because the chords played by the synth seemingly disappear behind a metal cage. But in general I feel its flavor is suppressed a bit too much. And again, here's what I really like about this remix: its fast pace! It's just mad, crazy - it's wonderful! |

Parallax - arranged by InfamousReview by LaLa, 09/07/2012 Hmm, I am not as floored by this remix as others seem to be.The intro is pretty cool sticking to the spirit of the original, but I feel the rest seems to be too afraid to cross over from the simple side. From around 5:30 it takes on a definite kraftwerkish quality: pumping base, electronic drums, all the goodies. Unfortunately, it doesn't last too long. Another satisfying part develops after 8:30-ish which demonstrates loads of creativity. All in all, a technically superb remix with a few remarkable portions, but I wish those remarkable portions filled out the rest of it, too. |

I guess, all Skate or Die remixes are similar because there are not many ways this tune can be remixed?This is slightly better than most other remixes, it has a decent instrument selection, but it's neither inspiring, nor powerful despite the presence of electric guitars. A nice effort, but it needs more oomph. |

Flimbo's Quest Laserdance remake - arranged by MaverickReview by LaLa, 15/05/2012 My eyes lit up when I saw that this remix was supposed to be in Laserdance style. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to my initial enthusiasm.The first problem is right off the start: there is no intro per se, and the various pulsating pieces just do not seem to fit together. Then the drums come in, but they are too soft both in character and in volume - they're barely audible. Most of Laserdance's biggest hits use well-pronounced disco-style drum kits. The chorded pads are also too washed out in the mix. Finally, the outro - there's none. The remix ends as abruptly as it has begun, which is disappointing. All in all, it's a good basic idea for a remix that needs a lot more work. |

Flimbo's Concerto (Opus 12 in C major) - arranged by Peter ClarkeReview by LaLa, 23/04/2012 Quite a tour de force! It took me time to warm up to the slowed down tempo of these tunes, but they work wonderfully in the context of an orchestra. I also like how this concerto is arranged in several movements, they form a nice storyline. The individual subtunes of the original are also instrumented rather tastefully.The only issues I have with this piece is that a) it could've used a bit more dynamic range, b) the mix sounds a little too compressed with few high-ends (except for the occasional brass). The ending feels somewhat abrupt, a few wind-down notes would've helped there. All in all, I'm sure this will touch everybody who listens to it in one way or another, and that's what great art is all about. |

Trick Bag - arranged by DJ Skitz & MordiReview by LaLa, 20/04/2012 I'll be honest, my yardstick here is Dafunk's superb rendition of the same tune. That one is just perfect: every note, every blend, every modification in it is just perfectly placed. Here the melody seems to hiccup here and there compared to that version, probably because Dafunk's additions to it made the original melody so much better. From 1:14 the flute is completely lost - the notes are not held long enough. The transition from the mellow to the dancey part is very well done, but frankly, I don't think the dancey part fits this tune well. Those aside it's a nice tribute, but it leaves me a bit unsatisfied. |

A good arrangement with impressive instrumentation of a structurally uninspiring piece (IMO!) that may have benefited from a leaner length… says Kate of the day-long epics, lol |
