Story
Someone commented on this being just a remix - yes indeed, it's just a remix! I like the original C64 SID tune very much (I remember recording it on tape to listen to it back in the 1980s), and I only wanted to beef up the sound, but keep most of the original arrangement.

Anyway, the mix is not too clear and there's a bit too much lowest bass frequencies, so let's see if I can come up with a better version or some other Hubbard tune. I'm kind of fixated on Rob Hubbard's SIDs, so that's what it'll be!

How I did it (IIRC)
- Played each channel of the SID into a separate WAV file (i.e. ended up with three mono WAVs) with some software SID player.
- Loaded the WAVs into Cubase SX as separate audio tracks
- Clipped and extracted the bass notes onto a separate track
- Panned the channels around a bit
- Added some reverb to some sounds
- Added sampled drums and tambourine (not "loops" btw)
- Played in a synth bass (some sampled Nord sound maybe? I don't remember) to double the original bass but an octave lower
- Added "stuffing" chords on VSTi synths to bring up the overall sense of harmony and fullness
- Added some effects like chorus and overdrive to some instruments

Oh, this is easy... Sample the original, take a drumloop and mix it baby :)
SID+drums-tempo=not good. But I like it anyway, has a good flow.
Very tasty... Love the deep bass
Wicked.
Great, tasty and meaty remix!

Yzi shows up new into the arranger list
He/She does a nice work, for my taste a bit too close to the originial and a lack of own inspiration.

Pretty good. The melody is lacking in a few places but the original tune ain't better. The sound is thick, and feels unusually warm in my opinion. I appriciate the C64 arpeggios. Now, it would be great with a singer to top it off and give some variation.

As Homer Simpson would say it: mmmmm, tasty! … Absolutely awesome bass sound
that endangers your speakers and tasteful drums that provide many hints of the
original. Very subtle rhythmic chords add another dimension to this remix. The
lead is also pretty close to the SID original, which in this case is not a
compliment, because at times it feels too thin as compared to the rest.
However, the melody is reproduced very faithfully which pleases me a lot. I
only wish the entire IK tune was represented here, because Yzi decided to
remix only the first half of it…

I believe this is actually the second part of the original International Karate tune. As you would manage to stay in the running for long enough, the music, slower at first, would change into this more lively song, a real reward! The remix being close to the original is good; I like the melody a lot with its large number of mini-melodies. The drums make it even better. A great remix, one of my favourites!
