Terra Cresta Remix - arranged by RazmoReview by larsec, 02/03/2004 I have special ties to Galway's original of this tune. I am not one of those people who believes you should necisarilly hold true to the original when making a remix… But to me Terra Cresta is one of the rythmicly most brilliant SIDs I have ever heard. So to hear Razmo take that rythm and totally disregard it, exchanging the 3/4 measurement for a 4/4 and then not change the rythm of the lead the same way… It makes the melody sound totally chaotic and random. To me it sounds like he has no idea what he is doing, as if he doesn't know the original is 3/4 measurement. This might not be true, but that is what it sounds like…If you like that sort of thing I suppose this would be a good remix, but when you hold such a high opinion of the original because of the rythm, this remix is just awful… So eventhough it's nice to see someone trying to experiment with this SID I feel this remix is a total failure… On an ending note: Razmo's original additions, however, are brilliant, I love them… I think he should take those and make an original track based around those… |

Terra Cresta Remix - arranged by RazmoReview by lagerfeldt, 28/02/2004 It's not that often a remix is on par with the original, often missing essential ingredients of the original in terms of atmosphere, groove, etc.It's extremely rare to see a remix improve on the original, or add original elements that can stand alone. I feel Razmo's remix of Terra Cresta is one of those very rare occasions. It succeeds in terms of both atmosphere, technical merit, and especially originality. The robotic intro speak is a real nice touch that sets the scene right away, and builds up perfectly for the first introduction of the main beat. My favourite parts are actually not in the original SID, at 1:49 min. & 3:11 min., a new theme by Razmo that really rocks my socks off. Yeah! Mixing is excellent with nice balancing, though a tad too much reverb and slightly muddy eq makes clarity suffer a bit, compared to commercial quality, mind you… More please! This deserves a much higher ranking! |

Archetype (FeekZoid vs JMJ mix) - arranged by FeekZoidReview by Mayhem, 26/02/2004 Let's face it, the guy's a genius. And I'm not just talking about Mr Jarre here. Feekzoid takes one of his own creations (though not one I recall mentioning that he should try out) and bends it into something ethereal, techno and well, Jarre like at the same time. Highly infectious, highly addictive, with a damn catchy hook that kicks in at around 2:15. Just a demonstration that you don't need orchestral sounds or vocals to make an excellent remix. |

That Ethno style really is awasome, but the Indy theme just represents… well Indiana Jones. And it is SO characteristic for the movies, that I feel it is misplaced in a remix. |

Sweet (feat. Elsa & Karin) - arranged by Markus Schneider & MahoneyReview by winc, 25/02/2004 A more classical take on Sweet, with a nice mix of Moody Blues, and Eurythmics. This piece works, and has a nice feel to it, though I do believe that something of the original classic C64 music of Sweet by Johannes has been lost in this piece (sorry). I believe the main reason for this to be the Eurythmic opera style tune - while it is a nice tune and lyrics in their own right, I think the power of the original melody or Sweet is lost because of the replacement with the Eurythmic melody.However, that is pretty much all I can find wrong with this track, the technical skills shown in the whole piece is outstanding, and if I could create music half as good I would be proud. The classical music style of the piece is stunning, and I would certainly love to hear a classical/non-Eurythmic melody remix of this. I have a feeling that I'm not going with the flow with this piece - because of others opinions - but hey I like to be different 😊 To me it just didn't hold that Nostalgic feel. But overall, a stunning and wonderfully created, and masterful piece in its own right. |

Sweet (My Sun Shines On) - arranged by LagerfeldtReview by winc, 25/02/2004 I have listened to this song over and over for a good thirty minutes now, and still it has the same effect it did the first time I listened to it - A suddening awesome emotional tug caused by a wonderfully designed and put together piece.The original piece of music I loved, and found it the inspiration for a number of creative works I have done myself. This remix has managed to not only capture the emotional overwhelming feel of the original tune, but has enhanced on it by including the haunting and utterly stunning vocals. To me a song needs feeling, emotions, and a theme and this song has all those. In a style and feel all its own, Lagerfeldt has managed to pull off a professional remix of an originally classic and in my opinion improve on the original. Even though it isn't really in the same style of the original (this is a rexmix after all) the new feeling of this remix is just as powerful, and strong as the original classic C64 piece by Johannes. I have spent a number of my relistens to the piece to try and pick out something I didn't like, or that could have been better, but honestly I don't think I could add to this piece. It might have been nice to hear an attempt to bring in the guitar solo stage (position 2:01) of the original piece, but as it stands now I am not sure if that would have damaged or improved the overall feel of this piece (probably damaged it). There is only one way to sum up this song… WOW… More please!! 😃 |

The creator of these words really knew me, i mean, the game 😊 And every weekend I would play it for hours… Very nicely put together piece with the voices sounding good - though the words at time of the backers were a little muffled and had to make out sometimes.The biggest problem - and probably the biggest pitty - was the short cut off ending of this piece. It seems to… Like that 😊 It was the end of a verse, but it still felt like there should have been level 2, level 3, level 4… please!!! 😊 Lovely piece - certainly brought back a lot of great memories 😊 WiNC |

Sweet (feat. Elsa & Karin) - arranged by Markus Schneider & MahoneyReview by Tas, 20/02/2004 It's rare such a well made tune can look at itself and be turned on its head with no other mission in mind than pure fun. Well its rare unless your Mahoney who should be well known to many by now for not taking things too seriously. This time however he joins up With Markus Schneider who provides a very well orchestrated background to what is a semi-serious/semi-not so serious remix. Add to Mahoney and Markus Schneider two wonderful female vocalists and then somehow pop in a version of Eurythmics Sweet Dreams and you have something that strangely works very well. It's fun and also quite intense at the same time. An highly original mix from mahoney and some great ochestral work behind it spells one thing… WOW!! |

It's more of a general song for all games, but applies just as well to C64 games. I think more songs like this are needed to help give a voice to the community of gamers. From all generations. In my opinion, you did better lyrics to the Eurythmics melody than they did originally. |

Family (Hard n Heavy) - arranged by LManReview by lagerfeldt, 11/02/2004 I absolutely love this Huelsbeck song. Oooh, the memories.This rather sweet remake by LMan has a sorta mid 1980's sound (like a TV-series), mainly due to the piano theme and the drum machine sounds, I think. A perfect fit for a family show… hm, maybe that's the title clue? Starts out with a really nice slow atmospheric intro, and then progresses with the piano theme, and finally a guitar solo. Nice mix with plenty of reverb. My only reservation is the guitar sound, which would have benefitted from being a real guitar instead of a keyboard sound (although the programming sounds real enough). Oh, and the piano seems a bit artificial in the programming (perhaps too rigid quantizing?). Thumbs up! Very nostalgic for me 😊 |

Bruce Lee - arranged by RezistahReview by bar, 09/02/2004 If you are looking for a Bruce Lee remix, this one from Rezistah is by far the best choice. While it sounds minimalistic (just a simple drum pattern, a rubber bass and a synth), the samples are clear, well equalized and mixed, there are some good ideas here and there, and in a word everything sounds good.I'm just disappointed for the last two notes of the melody, that are wrong! I think this is a very great feature in a song with five or six notes at all 😊 Anyway, i love this remix so i suggest you to give it a look. |

I had the same idea for a Bruce Lee remix that, now, will never be released).Ok, Marcel as usual made, technically, a perfect work as near everything sounds very good, BUT i really can't stand the lead: it sounds too loud and, in my opinion, it isn't equalized in the right way with the rest of the track. In other words i think that with a more appropriate lead instrument this remix could be easily sold as a commercial work, but now, with this jarring (i mean strident) melody, i wouldn't put it on my radio-car with someone else to listen with me. |

Cobra (jazzed up mix) - arranged by CytexReview by bar, 31/01/2004 I love this version of Cobra made by Cytex. It sounds relaxing and runs smooth without boring the listener with useless drums sections or with a too long introducion. The only fault is in the lead instrument, a synth trumpet, that plays easy the melody but has no dynamics and the loop can be heard sometimes.Anyway there is a simple but great idea behind this remix, so i think it deserves to be downloaded and put in your c64-remix collection. |

Phantoms Of The Asteroid - arranged by Marcel DonnéReview by immacolata, 20/01/2004 Donne has made a tempo filled remix that I find myself listening to often. The remix is fairly faithful to the original sid tune once the synth section is over after the first minute. The absolute stroke of genius for this remix, however, is the drum track. It is present in the rest of the tune and makes quite a presence. It sound lolly-gagish at first but it really carries the tune in my opinion, and I think this quaint, disco-inspired drumtrack is what keeps me coming back for this song time after time. Of course, the rest of the instruments are chosen with care and fits in perfectly. |

Indiana Jones (Ethno Revenge) - arranged by Thomas Detert offlineReview by Tas, 11/01/2004 It's the main theme of Indiana Jones alright but with a twist and a not so subtle tiwst at that. The theme is there in its full glory but with some very clever links and sounds. The dance remix has a Ethnic feel which explains the title. Strong use of Vocal sample CD's somehow don't detract from what is essential a well produced track. Essentially its not an out and out remix of the sid but more a remix of the film but disregarding that fact downloading is a must. Technically impressive, and creatively admirable.WARNING: Indiana Jones will always sound this way in the future! |

720 Degrees (Still Loading) - arranged by Juha KaunistoReview by ifadeo, 08/12/2003 Well, this remix and his zoids remix are two of the best remixes of 2003. it makes a difference, if real guitars used instead of virtual guitarist or slayer… nothing against those progy's… but i prefer real guitars! in this piece of punk-art you can hear a lot of noisy guitars, sounding punk'ish and that's good it fits perfect to the orginal tune…overall it's a very authentic outstanding punk production, the only weak point: it's to short… are they days of poser-heavy-metal all over??? i hope so… 😉 |

Last V8 - arranged by o2Review by rafael, 03/12/2003 Let me start by pointing out that I REALLY like O2s work - his Nemesis track is one of my all-time faves on RKO. Magnificent, powerful and well designed. Errr… this is where I have to start writing about this track I think. And that's exactly my problem with it. There's not that much to say, no offence Carsten. It really started well, with those eerie bass effects and the technical feel - then, in comes the typical Jarre-like sound but then… don't know, something happens and the tune fails. It's not that it's technically poor, nor is it musically uninteresting. It's just that there's nothing outstanding about it. And outstanding you normally are dude. It's a shame Carsten hasn't finished his track for R64 Vol. 2. Now THAT would have been interesting. What do you say? |

Saboteur II - revisited - arranged by Marcel DonnéReview by infamous, 03/12/2003 Saboteur. one of the many games i bought and then thought WHAT? WHY? HUH?!?!but anyway… Having experience of the game 1st hand really does help with this one and listening to it for a 2nd time, this wouldnt go amiss in a saboteur remake, the soundscape and the way its written fits perfectly into the original. maybe this is how rob actually wanted it? or maybe not. Either way, once again we have a great remix from marcel (2 in one go… must by xmas hehe)… The only gripe i have is that the drums are too low in the sound spectrum, they are played too far back into the speakers with everything else sitting at the front and this effects the rest of the bass, giving it a muddy feel. But what is there is still as good as your likely to ever get on RKO without the aid of alot of money and a HUGE studio. Dont actually ever remember there being any music in saboteur either but then my c64 hated me and hardly ever did what i asked of it. but what we have here as i said before is something worth downloading as usual from mr donne 😊. so stop reading the inane ramblings of a english madperson and go download and judge for yourself. nostalgic gets a googly cos as i said - never remember any music from it so i cant exactly get nostalgic can i :-p lol. |

Phantoms Of The Asteroid - arranged by Marcel DonnéReview by infamous, 03/12/2003 Phantoms of the asteroids, one of my personal favourite sids and marcel donne one of my personal favourite remixers in one box.MMMMM… lets just have a listen. Starts with a nice lil string pad arrangement that really doesnt seem to have much to do with the actual sid but this originality you come to expect from mr donne, there are however slight sid noises running through beautifully along with what sounds like someone with currybelly groaning and the odd clang of a metal object… rising synths… then it all fades away slightly to reveal the real start of the tune with a fast but not thumping drum beat beginning to play and the instantly recognisable bleeps come… its phantom of the asteroids alright And its a more than decent version of it. As usual the sample quality is top notch, the arrangement near to perfect as it could be, the whole thing oozes marcel quality and is well worth having a listen too. if i was going to introduce someone to RKO by showing them a tune, This wouldnt be the 1st but it'd be in the top 10 without a doubt. A recommended download if ever i heard one. wtg marcel. |

Saboteur II - revisited - arranged by Marcel DonnéReview by ifadeo, 03/12/2003 I don't like rob hubbard's orginal, it's sounds a bit weird… … but marcel shows us what it needs to recreate something fresh out of a mediocre sidtune: a stimulating bass, a cute cs80 lead (i'm right, marcel?), and some real nice sequencer-lines…the only weak point(IMO) is that deep pad sound starting at 3:45, the pad dominates and i can't hear anymore those nice little sounds & beeps in the background, behind the FAT pad sound… but who cares…😉 overall it's a fantastic synth-pop composition… thank you for the music… marcel |

Panther (Blitz Mix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by infamous, 28/11/2003 Ok here we are with another electronical tune from the artist formerly known as klang…And as usual its of a high standard, pretty much like all what he does, i do love the style that ifadeo uses, its a fresh approach towards remixing and one i wholeheartedly enjoy. But thats enough icon rubbing on to the tune itself. Panther. Not one of wittakers tunes that come straight to mind, but i do know it from listening to other remixers who have tackled it of late, its ironic that it'd appear here (At least to me) after hearing it a thousand times elsewere and i can safely say this is the best version of it ive heard so far. It has a bouncy quality that just moves the song along, despite the fact that it does repeat itself over and over again for the mainline, the instruments and synths used ensure it doesnt grate and get on your nerves. I love the snare used it has a slight laseresque (if thats a word) sound to it. The synths themselves are clear and concise as usual, and special mention to the nice analog bubbles used througout… very nice 😊. Overall this is another one of mr ifadeo's tunes thats going into my eternal playlist, and one that i recommend everyone else places in theres too. class act… class tune. |
