Story

I originally wanted to remix this in 2003 but opted for the easier subtune 3 which a lot of listeners have enjoyed since. A few years later I bought a Roland jv 2080 and discovered a sound that when I first heard it, immediately thought that it would suit subtune 1 of Amaurote.

Fast forward to 2021 and when the 20th anniversary remix competition was announced I remembered about that jv sound and set about remixing subtune 1 for the compo. Interestingly, my main motivation for also doing this remix was the covid lockdown events from the past year. In my job, seeing empty hotel carparks, streets with shops still advertising Christmas long after the festivities had ended and driving down lonely motorways was an eerie experience-one which set the style for this remix.

I am getting pretty solid early 80s John Carpenter vibes here, with some of the more avantgarde albums of Vangelis thrown in there for good measure. I quite like it!

For me, the first outstanding remix I heard in the anniversary compo. I love this, the creepy atmosphere, the carpenter vibes, from a creative point of view, this is full of ideas. The only minor issue I have is the loudness of the snare, it works but it’s a bit too in your face. I thought the please hang up and try again phrase at the end was a genius addition.
