Story

This is our entry for the Remix 64 25th Anniversary competition and despite some stiff competition, we came 1st ๐Ÿ˜Š

This project started life in late May when Jogeir and I were discussing BIT Live and he suggested a co-op. A prospect that 5 years ago I would never have believed. It was an easy yes.

We spent a week or so bouncing ideas around and had nearly settled on a track but then, thankfully, we re-read the rules and discovered the original song had to pre-date 1995. Always read the rules. Carefully!

The arrangement came together pretty fast. While Jogeir was finishing some other projects, I found a way to knit Robocop 3 into Green Beret title which gave us an opening. One of his first thoughts after hearing this was, let's do the dum dum dum dum from Rambo to transition to something else.

A few days later, he sent back this idea moving into Charles Deenen / JTs Ala Gal (a cover of Neil Baldwin's original) and later that week, wizball weaved it's way into the track.

After a brief hiatus where other work, football and heatwaves wiped weeks of remixing opportunity, we started picking up the pace again and something unexpected happened, I ended up mixing Jogeir's section. He mixed my Rambo / Beret opener, cutting all the clutter and adding a neat counter melody to the start.

It was so easy working with Jogeir, he's such a nice guy and a real talent. We had a crunch in the final week but at no point did I feel any pressure or have any doubts, we just got on and worked hard get this finished.

In fact, we were still making changes to the track 1 hour before the deadline!

We're glad people enjoyed it enough to vote it as the winner.

This is what happens when two amazing musicians decide to collab. Everything fits so well, great production, easiest red smiley of the year. Super intersection to split the tracks (and remixers). Just lovely all round
Slightly too synth-ey for me but a great effort.
Fantastic collaboration!
Osom!
Absolutely fantasticโ€ฆ Collab of the year for me.
Not from this world! Mad men at work for sure.
Fantastic. Possibly my fav of the year. Re. LaLas mention of Baldwin - been trying to get someone to remix that one for years ๐Ÿ˜Š
This is so cool that it dropped temperature 10 Celsius in 3:50. Jogeir I promise I won't butcher the bassline here (only you understand ๐Ÿ˜Š)

Outstanding Technique

Outstanding Artistic skill

Outstanding Nostalgia factor

Outstanding Overall rating

Even though create a mashup was the theme of the remix compo at BIT Live 2022, in 2026 we still received several mashup entries, including this one. Which also won the compo, and very deservedly so.

The part that really pierces my heart in this one is the second half that covers Neil Baldwin's amazing tune Music Demo Number One. How the heck nobody remixed this tune before is beyond me - it's beautiful! If you are not familiar with the original SID, I highly recommend you to check it out . Orโ€ฆ just listen to Jogeir's & Tim's interpretation in this superb piece.

Overall, my only gripe with this remix is that it seemed to have been ended at around the 4 minute mark (which was the compo's time limit), although Tim told me they never planned and extended version. Well, you guys should!
