Spy cello vs spy pizzi - arranged by golReview by eliot, 22/04/2003 Hmm… the usage of classical instruments doesn't turn a tune intoSymphony, it's more Classical. The variation of some quite unharmonicnotes turns this tune unsatisfying to me, and makes me feel sad, the original doesn't. Besides that this attempt is quite nice but nothing breath-taking with a leak of variation. |

Last Ninja 2 - The Basement - arranged by Dave BrybeReview by eliot, 22/04/2003 Welcome to remix64 and remix. kwed. org Dave!I can't count how many Last Ninja 2remixes we already got here and this one goes into the wrong direction. Even done as hardcore tekkno (it's not trance ) it should remain the spirit of the original and this spirit went away It's fast, it's tekkno, but that's all, I hope Dave does better next time. |

Miss ParkPatrol takes a Break (feat.Elsa Persson) - arranged by MahoneyReview by eliot, 22/04/2003 For anyone who did not find the. sids, should take a look at the "GAMES" directory into the HVSC "A-FBreak_Dance. sid" and "M-RPark_Patrol. sid".This "remix" is really amazing, because it honors quite unpopular. sids, I can only remember "Break Dance", "Park Patrol" left without any impression into my neural network. Yes, I guess most people will leave this remix beside, it's really very unusual and I can imagine the many reviews explaining why it's crap For me it's an impressive, intuitive, jazzy, powerful attempt. The only negative I can write here, are some really high frequencies hitting my ear by my headphones and I wished for a bit less volume on this percussions (that "squishes" I mean). Outstanding work anyways Pex! |

Deflektor (NuSkull remake) - arranged by AnDras PosztReview by eliot, 07/04/2003 Welcome Andras, any new arranger will receive a warm welcome. His first remakeis quite ok, something d'n'b (he mentioned it as BritPopinside the MP3-tag) with nice fx and filters. Some of the parts are repetitive, so shorter would be better. Overall good. (Besides that, I really hate the original, but he did it much better) |

Noisy Pillars - Subtune 2 (Sea of Passion) - arranged by PeppaJPReview by eliot, 07/04/2003 I alredy wrote I do not really likecheap midi-synthinstruments. Besides that it's quite nice without highs or depths, but I miss a bit the frisky touch of the original. |

Platoon - Tunnels (Apocalyptic mix) - arranged by FeekZoidReview by eliot, 07/04/2003 Paul did it again Seems he got some new equipmentHe perfectly transfered the soul of the original SID with some neat fx and a really great powerfull base-line. Technically nearly perfect. Only the end is a bit disappointing. It's hard to describe music and I do not like to make it to something sientifically as other reviewers do, so I can only recommand the download of this tune. |

KikStart 2 - arranged by IceXuickReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 This is IceXuick's best attempt so far. The original is very poor but he managed to improve it. Due it's a dance-track it has a lack of variation but overall it's worth to listen. Nice attempt. |

Aztec Challenge - arranged by IceXuickReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 The original tune has a gloomy touch that completly went away. It's not always a good idea to transform a tune in somethinghappy-electronic-80ies. For me this tune does not work, next time choose a tune that fits with your style. |
Hawkeye - arranged by IceXuickReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 A nicehappytune but for my taste to much repeatations, the stereo panorama is quite small, the end of this tune does not fit when you set your player on loop and the MP3-tag, is quite empty. |
Target Renegade - arranged by PetersReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 We always welcome new arrangers to RKO and I prefer to write a nice, heart-warming review. I'm sorry, there is no reason to do so. This tune is really boring with serious lacks of inspiration. The rhythm of the bass/drum-line does not match with the lead… very curious and I guess not a stilistic purpose. This song ends very abrupt, when you have set your player on loop, it sounds really awful. And besides that: MP3-Tags should contain more useful information. |

Giana Sisters Hiscore (D-Flingern Mix) - arranged by ifadeo offlineReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 The soundfx do not good on the tune, as I have experienced in some other of ifadeo's remixes before, because theyfeelwrong. I recommand a more classicalapproach and leads should lead not drowned by drums and fx. |
Thrust (Magnificent Worlds) - arranged by FeekZoidReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 It's long ago since Paul's last upload but it was worth waiting for this release. The charme of C-64 revived while he managed a grandious melt of different styles. The only technical disadvantage are some crackles… Besides that there are no more words to discribe, just listen this stunning remix yourself! |
Shadow Skimmer - arranged by Markus SchneiderReview by eliot, 30/03/2003 Sometimes it's a great surprise arrangers can make a poor original to something extraordinary. Compared to Glyn the instruments do not sound likecheap midigiving the tune a authentic touch. Awesome work and the best orchestral remix so far. |
Delta (Concert version) - arranged by Noviello PippoReview by eliot, 29/03/2003 Concert? Hmm… I like the first half of the tune, the second is quite a mistake or shall I sayjunk? Mixing different styles is a hard task and this time it went to out of direction. And yes, once again there is an empty mp3-tag |
Zamzara (Spice Mix) - arranged by Gustav TaxénReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 At the first I was aware of are the annoying loud snares . They really hurt this tune and makes me votegoodinstead of very good. I hope next time Gustav will avoid such. Maybe we get a new mastered version? |
Thanatos (In Love Mix) - arranged by DJ RETROGradeReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 DJ Regrograde appears with his first remix - and due the name I thought I will get some hardcore tune but my assumption was wrong It is very close to the original, besides the drums. Maybe a supporting bass-line would give the tune more brightness, but overall it's nice. |
Pitfall 2 - Lost Caverns - arranged by BaRReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 I'm not a fan of Midi-Instruments, especially when they sound tinny. It's a 1:1 cover, very little own inspiration - I guess due the choice of instruments, it shall link toIndiana Jones- but it's far away from John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra. And again: MP3-tags are intend to fill with useful information and not to left blank. |
The Last Ninja 3 Intro - arranged by IceXuickReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 Hmm.. it's not really a remix, it's too close to the original due lack of own inspiration. It's nice to listen but not kicking. And yes, MP3-tags are intend to fill with usefull information and not to be left blank. |
Ocean Loader Four - arranged by YoshiReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 Do you like to kill my ears with your drums? Seems so. Instruments and drum-line are out of shape… is it a dance remix or something different? The drum-line make me guess it's dance-style, while the lead instruments make me guess it's trancy. I also miss variations… The spirit of the original was completely lost. |
Cybernoid 2 (Dancing baby mix) - arranged by Noviello PippoReview by eliot, 25/03/2003 Does it make any sense to upload a song when you have problems with your soundcard? No, it does not, Jan was too kind to accept the upload… ten years ago it was cool to have drums on the right channel and the lead on the left - So anyone avoid the download. (Next time enter infos to the mp3-tags, empty tags are annoying!) |
Birthday (The Stones join Erasure) - arranged by PutziReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 This tune is not done byMartin Schneideralone, the HVSC lists it in the Jens Blidonsub-directory It's always nice to listen remixes from composers outside the main-stream. Sascha did a very good work to keep the flair. Racoondid not find all bugs in the audio, because there are some crackles within the first 40 seconds. Besides this few crackles, the tune is good balanced with nice instruments, I only miss a brighter stereo-panorama. A good example of happy-music. |
Technocop - arranged by golReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 Mathias has a faible for Ben Daglish Anyways, he did a nice remix and cover the spirit of the original. The song has no flaws I can think of - but I miss the special touch/artistic improvement to give it a very good. |
Last Ninja (The Wilderness) - arranged by CytexReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 Hmm… and one more Last Ninja remix… the flair of the original is gone. It's quite a loveless remix, with lots of repeatations and much lack of inspiration, because it gets boring. Maybe my taste tends in an other direction compared to all the other voters, I think this remix can everyone pass by. |
Comic Bakery (Retro Magic) - arranged by HazelReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 Hazel appears as new member in the arranger-list. WelcomeHis first work seem to be a d'n'd remix… I can not really get familar with it, because the flair/soul of the SID is hopeless destroyed. There are some nice parts, so it steped beyond Average. |
Slaine (Industriemädchen Mix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 It seems ifadeo has a faible for David Whittaker As always it's not aone2one coverbut I can live with that He did nice additions, balanced instruments, good stereo-panorama. During listening I got the feeling it has similarities to OMD. An interesting arrangment, but too much repeatations and an abrupt end |
Human Race - arranged by Markus SchneiderReview by eliot, 22/03/2003 Markus did a nice work. Notstellar, not kicking, but quite in shape with the original, some nice effects and balanced instruments, with a lack of own inspiration. |
Arkanoid (Title Screen) - arranged by Richard WestallReview by eliot, 21/03/2003 Who can not remember the glourious days when we first listen the original on the C64 and speculate how Martin did the digi-fx (ok, some are too young )Richard's first remix, is really well done. It catches the flair of the original, the drums are 100% in shape, the stereo panorama is working too, all instruments are balanced and there is no flaw I can think off. For now, it's the best Arkanoid remix so far. Keep on this good work! |
The Tube (FM Mix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by eliot, 20/03/2003 With my headphones I do not listen ifadeos AKG-240 This is ifadeo's best tune so far, very balanced, very touchy with the original flair. The onlyflawis the end of the song… I have expected something different, I guess not any arranger follow my thoughts while listen |
Star Lifter - arranged by MaindrianReview by eliot, 20/03/2003 Does a distorted guitar makes this tune good? No. It feels like mish-mash, but maybe I am not a real rock fan |
Wizball Highscore (sid-cover) - arranged by Kent WalldénReview by eliot, 20/03/2003 It's defintifly a remix even when titled ascoverThe drums kicks my head using my headphones… It's quite nice done, nothing special, but not a kicking tune I will listen more often. |
