Pool Party (FN mix) - arranged by Xenox

Review by DJB, 26/11/2014

Unfortunately I can't really give this much credit points. Anyone can use SID2MIDI, but the important thing is (and is what is most noticeable) is when the arranger doesn't double-check the original SID to ensure that all the notes are correct. The program is a really good way to capture the notes, but it doesn't handle slides / glides at all, hence if a song uses them and the notes ain't corrected, it can ruin your cover.

Driven21 (tiny rmx) - arranged by Dafunk

Review by DJB, 26/07/2007

This is the first time that someone has covreed one of my tunes, and I LOVE IT!!! I knew that this would sound nice after reading the comments, but its absolutely awsome. I love the drum change too, a little more upbeat than what I originally wrote the song to be, but a nice change. I can take or leave the quotes through it, it does add that little extra which is good. Hopefully I can come across a few more of my tunes remixed in the future.

Alibi (steady-state remix) - arranged by Patrick [Major Minor] Ceuppens

Review by DJB, 15/04/2005

Man, what can I say, I'm blown away!!

Good arrangement, and perfect instruments, and a flawless conversion of the lead. The lead sound is a perfect nostalgic link back to the original SID version, it reminds me so much of it

10/10 from me, thank you so much for doing this tune!!

Syncopated (by Laxity) - arranged by Vernest

Review by DJB, 15/04/2005

This tune was one of the first C64 tunes I really loved, however this conversion does disappoint a litle. By all means, it's great that this tune finally got done, bust some of the instruments and leads REALLY need fixing If this is was fully polished up, bad instruments removed, and re-released, it would get a much higher ranking than I give it.

Anal-ogue (to the higher state) - arranged by Mixer

Review by DJB, 23/01/2005

Like Mixer said, Soren Lund is a genious when it comes to C64 Composing. I'll also say that I've known Soren now for nearly 10 years, and even though I've never had the pleasure of actually meeting (and boozing hehe) with him, he is one of the greatest composers / programmers I've ever known on the C64 scene (for people that didn't know, he wrote his own code to play and edit his c64 tunes as well, which a lot of ppl don't do these days).

Now, on to Mixer's cover of this great track. I've known Mixer for a little while now (gotta love IRC hehe) and has always had my respect for his musical efforts on c64 aswell. But, this cover of what is one of the hardest hitting c64 tracks has left me stunned.

Even though the track does seem to go a little longer than what is needed, it not only sounds great on a surround system, but it's a good example of how a Dance / Techno styled tune on C64 can be taken to "the higher state" (in this case Cubase) and blow you away.

Damn good job you've done here Mixer, I'm proud of you

Ocean Loader 3 - Rockin' Mix - arranged by Stafford and Clayton Marsland

Review by DJB, 28/10/2004

Man, I LOVE this!!! GREAT C64 REMIX!!!

Hearing the actual SID at the start of the tune brought back memories of the days when I would wait 4 minutes or so for a game to load from tape (hehehe).

The drums come in (good choice of drum samples I must admit too), although maybe the first snare hits couuld've been faded in a little, as it does seem a little too loud, even though from memory the original was supposed to try and catch you off-guard anyways.

I LOVE the guitar doing the lead in this, sounds so awsome!! It's a real blessing to my ears. A nice combination of instruments used too for the background. The new solos were a surprise at first, but really good! The technical side of the solos wasn't too bad either, there were some sections that lacked a little but overall very nice.

Probably one of the only downsides is that the song wasn't covered completely correct, there's bits there in the actual song structure that shouldn't be, but this is only a small imperfection.

Well done on this one, the term Rockin' Mix definately doesn't disappoint!!
