Story

First of all, even though this C64 tune was composed by the great Ben Daglish who is one of the most inspiring C64 composers ever to me, this rendition of mine would have never happened without vurtX. His 2010 take on Jack the Nipper was bloody inspiring and it's still one of my most fav C64 remixes to date. I can recall that with Sidrip Alliance, during a rehearsal afterparty after drinking some alcoholic beverages, I asked the guys that maybe, shall we perform this one some time? They said: No way, Ben Daglish, in this crazy tempo? 😃

So this rendition of mine is an instrumental version, nothing is programmed, everything is recorded. The first couple of minutes is based more or less on vurtX's 2010 track. As far as the synth goes I'm not a keyboard player just a guitarist who can more or less apply some guitar fingering on the blacks and whites. This track certainly clipped my limits. I had to record the parts with this blistering tempo in tiny pieces from bar to bar, like 1-2-3-4-PLAY-2-3-4-STOP. Next bar. You don't want to know the time I needed to record it 😃 But it was fun. A, how to say, timewise demanding fun, but fun nevertheless.

This track is a part of my expanding pack of remixes of the recent years. An EP was planned but that slowly starts to grow into an album:

Dark Flow - The expanding album

So, that's my humble take on this crazy Ben Daglish tune. Ben was a genius. I'm really sad that he's gone, so early. I hoped that one day we'll share the stage at some point. It will never happen. Sir, you're sorely missed - and thanks for all the inspiration.

Closing picture: from Ben's facebook page.

Amiga mid-break finger drumming 'choir': total coincidence. I wasn't aware at all that I was doing that. I noticed only during video editing.

William Wobbler 4-channel tracker bits: it is there for the Amiga / Paula criterium only. Seemed to be a good idea. Maybe not. You decide.

Tech side:

Noise!… … I mean… … Noice! My only small criticism is about the lead (0:13-1:18) which could be slightly more present/powerful compared to the rest. Very good remix… … and memories.
Wasting no time, NecroPolo jumps right to the punches, swiftly delivering a rocking remix with no unnecessary bells and whistles. Well done, man! |m|
Great heavy guitars, creative addons to the original(s) and pretty good production. Keep on rocking NP!
Sweet mother of God Necro, you threatened to do this and you've smashed it onto another level, blistering work

Sounded amazing on the speakers at BIT Live 2025. But even on a more meager setup this tune ROCKS. And the William Wobler inserts are brilliant. 🙂
Should've been in the top 3 at the compo.
