Shaped Signs
I've been making music since the late '70s, starting on a Yamaha Electone organ. My parents had to 'enjoy' my early experiments, especially since I loved to play loud. 😉
Then came the C64. I was instantly hooked on the music in games and demos. Rob Hubbard and Martin Galway were my favorites. That’s when I started creating my first SID tunes using Chris Hülsbeck’s 'Soundmonitor'. Unfortunately, none of those early tracks have survived.
In the 1990s, I worked on the Amiga with TFMX, ProTracker, and a mostly unknown tracker called 'ACE Tracker', which was programmed by a friend of mine. It was a hybrid between ProTracker and TFMX.
My first 'real' synthesizer, a Kawai K4, came along in 1992. I took my first steps into MIDI sequencing with 'Bars and Pipes'. Later, my friend added MIDI support to his 'ACE Tracker', and we created some tracks together during that time.
In the second half of the '90s, I started working with a PC and 'Cakewalk'. Back then, Cakewalk could only handle MIDI data. Over the years, I never really stopped using it — and I still use Cakewalk to this day.
In 2002, I started the project 'Shaped Signs' with my friend Ron Grahnert. We're still working together, creating concept albums. We love making chillout music with progressive influences — and the love for old SID tunes is still alive. Every now and then, I feel inspired to do a remix. I may not make many of them, but I’ll keep going! Maybe it won’t take another five years to release the next one
