Rambo Loader (Rambo's Blue Monday Mix) - arranged by Tron

Review by Mayhem, 01/11/2005

It's the turn of the nice, short, sweet review here. Sometimes people can be just a little too analytical. Maybe it's because I'm just a listener and not a composer. Anyhows, does it sound good? Yes. Does the combination work? Yes. Does the switch to a minor chord work? Yes. Does it get better with every listen? Hell yes. Nuff said.

Stormlord (Senecas Marble Pack Edit) - arranged by N-JOY

Review by Mayhem, 06/08/2004

I said to myself, many many years back before the cover scene even really started, this track could be so damn good in a professional music sense with someone overlaying vocals onto it. It may well have taken 15 years for it to actually happen, but the waiting is the best part of it. The result in itself is absolutely brilliant. Notwithstanding this is one of my favourite MoN tracks to begin with, but it retains the sparkle and altruistic impact of the original melody all of the way through.

The fact in the end the lyrics are not in English was a little surprising. Either way, they work, and that's the most important thing. The actual meaning of the words, given the handy translation here, are also of a similar theme to which I would hope they would have been given all that time ago.

If this is to be N-Joy's last work, then what a work to finish on…

Archetype (FeekZoid vs JMJ mix) - arranged by FeekZoid

Review by Mayhem, 26/02/2004

Let's face it, the guy's a genius. And I'm not just talking about Mr Jarre here. Feekzoid takes one of his own creations (though not one I recall mentioning that he should try out) and bends it into something ethereal, techno and well, Jarre like at the same time. Highly infectious, highly addictive, with a damn catchy hook that kicks in at around 2:15. Just a demonstration that you don't need orchestral sounds or vocals to make an excellent remix.

Thrust (Magnificent Worlds) - arranged by FeekZoid

Review by Mayhem, 26/03/2003

Not many people got to hear Feekzoid's original take on the Thrust tune. This newer remix actually manages to improve on it. If the tune solely concentrated on Thrust, it may have been even better (if that's hard to believe). A raw, pounding guitar laden riff/dance version of the main theme hits your ears… before giving way to a more melodic cover of Arcade Classics and some very ethereal vocals. And then returning to the main theme and finishing off on a dynamic note. Having listened to this countless times already, it doesn't get boring and still demands attention.

Thrust (Standfast Remix) - arranged by Philip Bak

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

When is a Thrust remix not a Thrust remix? When you get Phil Bak on the case. It's definitely the famous track… just not as you may have heard it before! Try it… you might like it 😊

Nemesis the Warlock - arranged by o2

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

A constant buildup, layering different ways of playing the same passage without it getting repetitive. Definitely my favourite NtW remix out there.

Delta (Space Grind Mix) - arranged by Gustav Taxén

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

Ah… Lala can sum things up well here. The improvisation part is extremely clever, engaging and listenable. It is also very similar in places to Jeroen Tel's intro piece for Robocop 3. But seeing as I enjoy that as well, it doesn't make much of a difference.

Someday (Dream Sequence) - arranged by Cirdan

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

Yet another SID I was not familiar with before listening to the remix. And what a remix it is. I almost thought it could have been from a film score, given the basis of the original track and what is has been turned into here. The current score shows this is vastly under-rated at this moment in time. Sounding slightly like Tangerine Dream and sometimes minimalistic, the various chords swirl round your brain like some drug. I have listened to the track countless times and I am still not bored with it.

Commando - arranged by Instant Remedy

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

I'm gonna disagree with Chris here… I LIKE the minor chord at the start! But that's the musical tastes now? This has a special place for me as this is the first SID remix I actually listened to way back then. And it still holds up well today, inaccuracies or no inaccuracies.

Comic Bakery (Larger than Pop Boyband mix) - arranged by PRESS PLAY ON TAPE

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

You have to admire their balls in doing this cover now! Thankfully it works on all levels, even if the lyrics are a little cheesy (but what songs today aren't?).

Last Ninja (extended) - arranged by Instant Remedy

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

This is still my favourite remix of all time. Even though it may be over 3 years old and plenty more tracks have better sounds, better tempo, better style. It still rocks. The restyled version on his album just backs up this original version still better.

Sidology Episode 3 - arranged by machinae supremacy

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

Kung Fu Bouff indeed… it doesn't let up, it keeps ripping into your ears for the full 7 minutes. And the Monty on the Run section deserves its own independent cover in that style as it surpasses PPOT's effort in my opinion.

Gordian Tomb Adventures - arranged by Glyn R Brown

Review by Mayhem, 05/02/2003

Sometimes it is a wonderful surprise to discover a SID track that you didn't know before you had listened to a remix of it. Such was the case here. A barely 3 minute long track has been expanded, improved and generally tarted up with instruments and vocals to produce a wonderful aural experience. Perhaps a little similar in nature to the previous Firelord track, nevertheless still a definite download to be had.
