Comic Bakery (Retro Magic) - arranged by HazelReview by Tas, 22/03/2003 New arranger on the blockHazel, has produced an alternative mix of Comic Bakery that can be best described as experimental. The remix is heavilly reliant on drum patterns which unfortunately are on the repetative side which can also be said for the remix itself. The remix isn't bad and doesn't do much wrong, yet it also doesn't infuse itself on you to the point of being over interesting. All said and done, it's a good work out for the new comer and there are limited signs of promise. |

Lightforce (Power Remix) - arranged by Markus HollerReview by Tas, 20/03/2003 The much remixed lightforce has been given the Markus Holler treatment here. As always Markus implements many of his own ideas and gives Lightforce a much needed boost. The guitar is the highlight of the track and the complex drum patterns give as the title suggests a power feel. There is a slightly unpolished feel to the remix tho, and some of the cymbals/drums feel a tad weak, but this is a minor complaint as the remix is by far the best remix of Lightforce out there. At 3:30 i feel the track is a little too short as you really just start getting into the track beofre it finishes. The track feels about 2 mins long, which is always a good sign as it shows your enjoying the track. I have to admit it's a great version of a much traveled sid, just slightly unpolished. |

Beroot Olejuuri - arranged by Eric DelosReview by Tas, 16/03/2003 Guitar tracks certainly are becoming more popular at the moment and with some success i may add. This track is rather shallow in nature however and suddenly stops abruptly leaving you feeling that the track is unfinished. The track last for just 1:15 mins which also adds to the feeling that this should never have been uploaded in its current state. Whats there is reasonable but whats the point you are never gonna be enthrauled by a track that isn't finished and sounds very aplha/beta in nature. The overall vote reflects this. |

Star Lifter - arranged by MaindrianReview by Tas, 16/03/2003 Another guitar piece from maindrian here. While the remix has some good ideas and it's implemented quite well the overall feel isn't quite there.it's simply one of those tunes thats good without being sensational. though the tunes energy does make it's mark somewhat. A good effort, but it lacks a little in the overall sound picture department. |

Times of Lore (Retro Remix) - arranged by MaindrianReview by Tas, 16/03/2003 Oh! i really like this, it's a novel approach to a remix. While there are obvious floors to this remix in the production department, and with that little more knowledge or effort in this area we'd have a stunning piece of work. The piece is what could be closely compaired to early 70's Mike Oldfield. Infact i wonder if Maindrain actually took inspiration from Mikes early work for this remix. I'm not saying this because of the guitar playing, but because of some very distinct rifts and styles what could be compaired to Oldfield himself. I like this raw sound alot, the unapologetic nature of it's unpolished feel just adds to what the piece is all about. I doubt many will agree with my review as the style is very much an aquired taste. But at least for me i regard the remix very highly. |

Wizball Highscore (sid-cover) - arranged by Kent WalldénReview by Tas, 16/03/2003 This remix is very faithful to the original, i wouldn't actually call this a remix or even a cover, it's more of an enhancement to the sid with it being so very much like the original in sound.Trace here has really just given the original work a smoother and more harmonious feel and has faithfully replicated the sounds and instruments of the original. The tune is not a mind blower, but it's one of those tunes that feels right. nice work trace. |

Firelord - Symphonic - arranged by Glyn R BrownReview by Tas, 27/02/2003 How glyn managed to make this awesome rendition of firelord sound so good in fruityloops is beyond me! but the facts say it for themselves, this was created in fruityloops using only average quality samples. But the key thing here is glyn's ability for music just shines through! The point is that i doubt glyn could ever do better than this in this current configuration. So what happens now, he goes and buy's himself a monster keyboard and the future of glyn is even brighter… The future's bright, the futures Brown |

The Last Ninja (clouded mind version) - arranged by mymessedupmindReview by Tas, 22/02/2003 Sid sounds with drums and a few added additional effects. What else can you say about it! not much really.Die hard Last ninja fans need only to apply! |
Miami Vice Loada - arranged by MistaDistahReview by Tas, 22/02/2003 MistaDistah goes walkabout for a while, but then after an absence returns with a whole new sound picture and approach creating an inventive ambient piece of work of a tune that hasn't had too many outings. The whole sound picture to this is so full, calming and oh so so nice! The use of analogue sounds to this piece just makes it! A whopping, stonking fine tune. Hats off to you MistahDistah |

Platoon (Sub tune 3) - arranged by Clayton MarslandReview by Tas, 22/02/2003 Strangely New order in style at parts, but it kinda works, if only let down by some very basic sounds. The powerful baseline is overlapped by some weak lead instruments, which is mainly one of the reasons why i rate this so low. The concept isn't that bad and the 80's idea in well visualised. Overall there just isn't enough highlights in the tune to maintain any interest for too long. |

C64 Turrican 2 Summer Remix - arranged by Markus SieboldReview by Tas, 22/02/2003 A lovelly feel good bouncy and jolly remix from Markus Siebold (who incidentally wrote the original piece). Nice attacking powerful drums accompanies a jarre-esque lead and backing. It's a damn good version of a great sid. Sometimes however you just wish that markus brought out the lead into the open more, a niggly point tho to be honest. |

Arabian Zoids (Themed Solo) - arranged by LarsecReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 This is a sublime piece of work from Larsec. I loved this tune right from the start, but it just gets better everytime i hear it. One of the most inventive remixes ever and so so very emotional to boot. This remix isn't your typical like for like approach as with many remixes you hear. Starting of slowly the track seems to give you a false sense of security, but it really kicks off at the 1:30 mark where female arabian vocals are added, which just enhances the feel more than ever. At 2:30 the tune evolves slowly bringing an electric guitar in and replacing the vocals as the tempo slowly increases. Adding more instruments and effects along the way, and it just keeps evolving as it goes on. It has everything a good musical ear should appreciate, mellow moments, attacking moments, and a massive amount of variety. Oh and it lasts just over 9 mins which is no bad thing as tracks like these can go on forever! Excellence in remixing and excellence in music! superb! |
Jinks Rebound - arranged by Krister NielsenReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 Not overly different from the original (which also includes the original samples). it's another one of those nicey nicey tunes that replaces the sid sound and turns it into an amiga sounding mod. It's nice, but nothing more! |
Ramparts (DnB Remix) - arranged by korrphReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 We've heard this style before… Write a simple tune and slam a few beats behind it, very boring and uninspirational. It does improve a bit as the remix goes on, but it just doesn't do anything to the ears. One of those songs that you get bored of very very easily. |
Space Harrier (Cooksley vs Bach Mix) - arranged by Karl R PettersenReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 A strange little tune that is quite appealing in small doses. It's lively, but it's also quite bizarre. A very strange choice of instruments selected here; from harpsicord to a squeezed mouse full of helium. (what is that sound anyway).Tho very strange in nature it's quite entertaining. certainly made me smile a wee bit. |
Sanx(ion) from the moment we kissed - arranged by J LofReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 There's alot of bad sanxion remixes about, and very few good ones. This version is one of those well, bad ones. It's noisy and over powering and adds far too much when simplicity would have been more the order of the day. Not to say it's really bad, it's just so boombastic and annoyingly overcrowded with effects and instruments. |
Creatures 2 (Infamous remix) - arranged by InfamousReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 erm! yes, erm well… it's different!Wierd, and boy this hurts!!! i dunno what to make of it! just don't bother downloading it! dreadful! with a captial D! |
Sacred Armour of Antiriad - arranged by HeadstoneReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 This remix sounds like Glyn R brown with a blindfold! Basically you know what he's trying to do, but it fails in just about every department. I'm almost sure this remix is inspired by glyns 1st part of his 3 in 1 entry on the remix64 competition. However thats where the simularity ends with glyn. The remix is flat, emotionless and just downright poor! |
Magical Sound Shower (Carribean Edit) - arranged by GhostReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 There's some nice touches in this remix by Ghost, especially concerning the drums which work tremendously well. The typical carribean lead work well with the tunes ethos, tho it does sound at times a little flat and disconcerning. It's a valliant effort, but at times the remix suffers from sounding a little Midi sounding. |
Arkanoid (version x mix) - arranged by FTCReview by Tas, 21/02/2003 The usual arkaniod, but with a difference. There's enough new elements to warrent another outing. FTC doesn't actually remix the sid so to speak, but actually tries to re-invent it to some extent.Part sid sound part ambience. i found this version very creative and adds a new flavour to a track which i think has lost it's sell by date! |
Ocean Loader 2 (Dance X-Periment) - arranged by Sonic WandererReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 I'm never too keen on the over use of SID in remixes, it's just not my thing, but Sonic Wanderer certainly knows how to use it to good effect in this dancey experiment which well produced and utilised. |
Last Ninja Remix (A Ninja By Night Remix) - arranged by Eric DelosReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Oh! Now this is different!Sorta mixes the oriental feel of the original with a 70's private eye film. You know the one with narritation at the beginning… It was when Lucy walked into the room one winters night when I stumbled upon a letter…etc etc… Strange, uninteresting, but original! But where is the end, why does it stop so abrupty? If you're bored download it, if your not then do something better instead. |
Moon Patrol - arranged by dor-xReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Some really nice touches here which actually uses the SID and transforms the piece into a new piece of music entirely… Many would agree that this isn't a remix as such, but then what is?Dor-x has taken a brief snipet of an original tune and made it kinda bluesy and I think has re-invented a SID that never was! A good effort, which maybe is a little hard to get your ears around, but is well produced and is very different to what you normally hear, and to add to that it's probably Dor-x's greatest achievement yet! |
Last Ninja Remix - Sewers (soft mix) - arranged by CytexReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 I plod along in a sewer; the end just doesn't come along soon enough, how do I get out from the stench!!!!Well it's not really that bad, but it's not too far away really. Nopes, its one of those monotonous tune that isn't really inviting and just drags along, like being lost in that sewer! It's ok, but bet you won't play it twice! |
Last Ninja - Wilderness Woodhouse Mix - arranged by Chris MReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Poorly produced, poorly executed, but not entirely bad. There are a few elements to this to bring it into the average score. It's one of those once only plays, and that's about it really. Kinda samey all the way through which never finds a direction or really gives you any real enjoyment. |
Grand Prix Circuit - arranged by AmpReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 I like this 80's approach to Grand Prix Circuit alot!!!!This very electronic sound is what i call à la Vince Clark, and even more so typically Erasure. Which as many of you know already is by no means alien to me😉 The thing here is to remember the 80's sound and how they dealt with it, Amp has done just that and produced a very dancy yet smooth inviting remix complete with e-guitar and piano which works exceptionally well. Good work Amp, more of the same please😉 |
Firefly Title Theme - arranged by Alfredo TerpentinReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Very amiga mod sounding!!!Not saying I don't like that! But actually I do in this case. Works well and gives that nostalgic feeling, if a little flat and uncreative. Overall, a tune thats nice, but can you get your ears around how Amiga it sounds? |
The Tube (FM Mix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Ifadeo is what I'd say is a step away from being with the big boys on the scene. He's got the right ideas, but sometimes his implementation of instruments have something to be desired preventing his work from being in the top 10 works.Again a sublime background to this tune, yet unfortunately the lead is just too rough, harsh and basic in it's approach. If ifadeo could just master his production work, he'd be right up there. Keep it up ifadeo, your doing great, and in time… you'll be hailed |
Storm (Its more fun to remix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 Terrific beat to this, an exceptionally groovey piece of work in the background. but, oh and why a but! The lead stinks.I'd really like this to be re-worked big time, and concentrate on the beat and it's dance nature. A fantastic idea, which has been let down in so many ways… oh this could have been!!!!! |
Loopz (Radiowellen Mix) - arranged by ifadeoReview by Tas, 20/02/2003 ifadeo experiments with melow ambience (not for the first time), however unfortunately his concepts havn't quite materialised into fruition as they should, due to simplistic instruments and basic implementations. Listening to this tune you can't help feel that with better smoother sounds ifadeo could have really been with the jiggy😉But as it is, it's ok, but nothing to light the world into oblivion. |
