It didn't sound very special in the beginning, but after listening for a while (at very loud volume by accident, which seemed to be a good thing), it just knocked my socks off. |

STATIX - Against Time - arranged by Andrea Milana offlineReview by Matt Smith, 02/05/2015 Back in the day, for young Amiga users like myself who lacked the funds to purchase new games on a regular basis, magazine coverdisks were a splendidly excellent thing. The disk that accompanied issue 35 of Amiga Power in February 1994 quickly became one of the most popular in my collection, for two reasons. First, it had the marvellously entertaining Tetris Pro on it; and second, it contained a demo version of a curious puzzley game with atypically beautiful music. That game was, of course, Statix, and it was booted up with great frequency just so I could listen to that lovely tune.Fully two decades later, the prospect of getting to hear a new and souped-up version of the Statix demo music was an exciting and warmly nostalgic one – and by crikey, this remix more than does justice to the original track. It absolutely captures the distinctive essence of Mr Grefberg's composition, elegantly blending haunting soulfulness with a perkily up-tempo positivity, and then expands upon it in all manner of imaginative and delightful ways. The guitars are an immensely cool addition to proceedings, giving this arrangement a sound all its own; the augmented introduction to the piece is impressively dramatic, the harmonising throughout is electrifying, and I love the transition at the 2:15 mark; it's a pleasing little moment that says Let's hear that again!An assortment of glittery new background sounds and twinkling counter-melodic elements add greatly to the magical atmosphere of the piece, and the use of finger-cymbals at various key moments is a wonderfully charming touch. Terrific stuff all round. I've since discovered, of course, that the full release of Statix neglected to include Against Timein its soundtrack. Thank heavens for that demo version, eh? |

Captain Planet and the Planeteers - Linka - arranged by RaptureReview by Matt Smith, 30/01/2015 Given the somewhat awkward circumstances surrounding its production, it’s remarkable that the Amiga version of Captain Planet turned out as well as it did. (In a nutshell: Commodore, aptly displaying the forethought and diligence that would serve them so well throughout the rest of the ‘90s, struck a deal to include the game in their Cartoon Classics A500+ pack but neglected to allow sufficient time for its development. Programmer Tony Crowther ended up having to design and code the entire thing from scratch in just one month, assisted by a lone graphic artist and Ben Daglish on drums.) It’s vastly flawed, of course, but there’s an admirable amount of creativity on display in the design of the levels and the puzzlier aspects of the gameplay, and the music is terrific throughout, with an array of energetic and catchy tunes doing much to enliven the decidedly wonky platforming.The theme that accompanies the Linkalevel (in which you control a girl with the power of wind (erk) as she hovers around what’s alleged to be an Egyptian pyramid but in fact looks rather more like a needlessly elaborate and unusually colourful chemical waste treatment plant) is extra-specially excellent, taking the form of a thrillingly zappy and pleasingly inventive electro-pop number. This remix elevates the tune to fantastic new heights, perfectly capturing the moodily mysterious yet sparklingly quirky atmosphere of the original while introducing a multitude of delightful flourishes that make the whole thing bigger, brighter and gloriously groovier than ever. Particular highlights include the numerous new countermelodies that add greatly to the class and variety of the piece; the flawless choice of sounds, all of which accentuate the futuristic vibe of the arrangement to scintillating effect; the entirely new section towards the end which replaces the drum solo, and which feels like a far more natural progression of the track than the original composition did; and the sheer quality of the mix, which is terrifically well-balanced throughout. The inclusion of the wind effect at the beginning and end is a neatly characterful touch, too. In summary, this is a vastly enjoyable re-imagining of a corking tune that zings with exuberant fun and funkiness and, for me, is cheeringly nostalgic. As the happy recipient of a Cartoon Classics pack during the Christmas of 1991, Captain Planet was one of the first Amiga games I ever encountered – and while it may not have been the most fun to play, it sure did have memorably marvellous music. Hurrah! |

Harlequin - The Clockworks - Electribe MX REMIX - arranged by Andrea Milana offlineReview by Matt Smith, 11/01/2015 A scintillatingly splendid piece of work. It has this fantastically eerie, haunting atmosphere far beyond the Amiga original, while still maintaining a thrillingly dynamic tempo – it could easily be the music from the end credits of some brilliantly spine-chilling horror movie. There are loads of smashingly shivery special touches, too – the melody that comes in from 1. 58 to 2. 20 sounds like a ghostly choir (with a fittingly metallic quality that suggests it could be the disembodied voices of haunted machinery), the assorted hollow clunks, hisses and clicks worked subtly into the soundscape evoke powerful mental images of being surrounded by the gears and pistons of some huge and sinister contraption, and the deliciously creepy off-kilter pianos that conclude the track are a stroke of genius; genuinely unnerving, somewhat in the vein of the famous Halloween score by John Carpenter, but with a unique flavour all their own. I absolutely adore the whole thing! |

The choice of instrument later was a mistake that suddenly brings it down to the level ofguy on computer at homefrom what was previously a serious producer in a professional studio. Please change that instrument, and put a bit more variation towards the end, it'll make it brilliant! |

Rings Of Medusa - The Last Crusade ReMIX - arranged by seVeneleVenReview by Grant, 11/03/2014 This remix feels like 3 takes which have been bookended into a single song.The first 2 minutes of this remix sound like what the original Amiga version was trying to be. The middle portion is decently composed. The original was a more emotive, haunting tune that doesn't feel quite right turned into something so up-tempo and energetic. The intermission at the 6:40 mark seems to have no purpose except to stretch out an already too long song an extra 2. 5 minutes. |

Rings of Medusa - arranged by Max LevinReview by Grant, 26/02/2014 Rings of Medusa re-imagined as a raver tune.The original ROM was haunting and cries out for a modern, polished remake. This mix is the opposite of that. Frenetic bass dominates the song. An organ opens with the classic ROM hook, and makes a guest appearance near the end, but otherwise the tune is mostly banging. Any other melody could have done as well in its place. |

Harlequin - Coming To Chimerica - arranged by BinsterReview by Matt Smith, 09/11/2013 Oh. My. WORD.I've absolutely adored this tune ever since I first played Harlequin more than 20 years ago (lordy, that makes me feel old), and I've longed to hear it remixed in high-definition digital NICAM CorBlimeySound for yonks. I'd honestly given up hope that anyone might turn their talents towards it, and then suddenly this appears, and it's magnificent. It perfectly captures the simultaneously bouncy, spooky, cheerful and mysterious nature of the original composition and expands upon it in truly majestic fashion; I've given it more than a dozen listens already, and it's just as fresh, exciting and joyous every time. This is, I can safely say, my favourite piece ever uploaded to Amiga Remix, and by golly it's in some fantastic company. An utterly wonderful piece of work, and I for one would be overjoyed if the remixer were to give his take on some of the other Harlequin tracks, or indeed any less-frequently-covered Amiga pieces. Superb! |

Turrican 2 - Freedom - arranged by NeriousReview by Ryrynz, 08/11/2013 Ziphoid hit the nail on the head, I want the epic Turrican chuck in some better mixing too.Dance intro was okay, enough to get me interested, then at 1. 30 The Turrican cometh and I was like I'M FEELING IT, THIS IS TEH TURRICANAnd I waited for the continuation of more epicness but then @ 3 mins it was back to dance and I was like OH :'( missed opportunity. Give me the Turrican feels dude, I know you can do it, just balance it out right, it doesn't quite have the same impact as the original or perhaps quite the same impact I want it to have. I don't think anyone has quite nailed Freedom yet, you might be able to give it the attention it deserves. |

I've decided to up my vote to a review to offset just how ridiculous many of you have voted.Ugh I hate it so everything gets bad facestype reviews.. Just listen again.. breathe and actually review it on it's merits not on your disgust.. As AmiGamer said I was hoping for people to vote for the idea of combining these two songs, rather than for the technical performance.And that's what I'm doing. |

Coloris - daXX Remix - arranged by daXX offlineReview by Ryrynz, 01/03/2013 Melody lead is crap? I don't think so! I'm pretty picky about such things and I feel it suits quite well. There is no denying that the background beat effects are what makes this tune, so punchy, invoking and interesting.One of my favorite Daxx tunes right beyond his Lotus remixes and Paranoimia. The last minute's synth reminds me a bit of Flashback in some ways which is nice. I think with some tweaking this tune could be amazing but what it is right now I still consider to be top notch, I do wish it had a bit more clarity though, Daxx, any chance of getting something a little less compressed and in a high bitrate? I want a V2! |

Turrican II (Concerto For Laser And Enemies Enhanced Mix) - arranged by Peter WReview by Ryrynz, 22/12/2012 I love how upbeat this is, such great instrument choices overall really making this tune sound modern. I know Hülsbeck himself has remixed this a few times but I actually prefer this over any his own remixes so that's saying something. It's more a beautiful enhancement of the original more than a remix and for that reason it's my favourite Concerto on this site. A few improvements could be made however, the drums at 0. 10 being a tad too light and the back beat a tad too heavy this would bring it a little more in line with the original if keeping with enhancing it rather than remixing, the original feels less bogged down but otherwise I love it. |

All caution is thrown to the wind in this all out fart fest which I feel from 0. 50 really starts to shine, LOL. |

Odyssey Part 5 New Trance Mix - arranged by Isacco Garcia PeveriReview by zzr, 12/10/2012 Since i'm a big fan of the Odyssey soundtrack, i decided to do my first review on this song. So lets get started.First off, i find it pretty hard to remix this songs, theyre dense stuff, unlike a lot of much more simple old amiga tunes. props to this remixer for doing this track, and doing it well! in detail: Technical impression: the only flaw i see is the mixing. sometimes its a bit more muddy than it could be, not clearly seperating all the instruments from each other. Leading me to a yellow smiley and the urge to look out for future remixes of this artist wich will surely become more experienced with this. Artistic impression: The song is surely well made with a lot of different instruments and fx, wich just suit it very well. From that i see the artist is someone who does music already for a longer time and knows how to place his stuff to make and/or keep the song interesting. Variation keeps coming, while still being on the run, in a solid trancy way. Red smiley for all the nice stuff in this song and the pretty flawless arrangement of all that. Nostalgia: Since its a Trance remix, it loses out a bit of the originals relaxing arrangement. Makes up for this with having a solid beatline wich pushes you forward through the track. Orange for that, and for being still very remarkable in comparison to the original Song. Overall, i actually prefer this version of the odyssey5 from the one made by daXX. thats pretty much why i decided to put my very first review on this track. Get it, and enjoy it regards. |

Amberstar - Mysty Orc Fanfares - arranged by ZzrReview by dayta, 04/10/2012 Here we goZzr used Buzz as far as i know and im glad people do that. the music is build from scratch and sounds nostalgic. no harmony errors were done and the mastering (or lets call it leveling the channels) is nice and smooth. it could be a little faster for my taste but not everything can be at 2million bpm i actualy enjoy this tune more then the orginal for the moment good work as allways |

I've always had a softspot for some of the music in Flashback, this one in particular. The arrangement is clean, and has a bright, embellished piano, as well as some nice layers underpinning it. There have been a few covers of this track, but this is up there with my favourite (name eludes me at present)If this composer was to cover more of the themes from the game, I would be quite happy |

The Last Sun 2010 - Official Remix - arranged by gibsReview by Pepino, 28/01/2011 It is no my favorite from Gibs - Test drive was the summit - but it is a fantastic remix.It is a pity that I didn't hear before the original music, so the nostalgic factor is not strong at all. Anyway Gibs is one of the best remixers of this site, and it is doing his best to become my favorite, and overthrow Reyn (what is extremely difficult). Your guitar is overtalented and makes a cool melody, into a powerful Nº 1 hit. You have a gift. I want to beg one petition. I have been waiting for a loooong time the definitive remix of Target Renegade. There are some nice version over there, but I want just you, to arrange that music as it deserves. It needs your hands on your guitar, do it!! |

Pinball Dreams - Digital World - arranged by Char7ieReview by RikTh, 09/06/2010 From the start of AmigaRemix, only two entry lists a remix for Pinball Dreams. One is a rightdown mp3'd version of the original mod done by Deadly Cookie, the other… Well, nice try, Pirx, but no thanks. So anyone who has an original take on one of my all-time favorites on the ol' Amiga has to be congratulated upfront. But then again: how does one cover a song that consists of 4 subparts, each one in it's own right? Char7ie gives us the answer!From the start, the remix takes on it's own route, being very much more analoguein comparison to the original mod (and it's. The intro feels somewhat forcefull on comparison to the original. The synth lacks depth and echo. Also, the tempo of the overall song has dropped some 15 BPM, which is not a huge deal, but strange for someone who has listened to the original remix for some four years now… The first subsong kicks in as a very nice lead guitar is nicely shadowed by a insprirative bass- and drumtrack. High programming value of both ones, there is much variation, and the mix is beautifully composed. The lead synth though seem out of place somewhere, as if it is overacting oppose to the guitar in bends and sweeps. The guitar takes revenge in a raving solo, ending the subsong. The second subsong is again two worlds. I absolutely despise the slap-bass riff in the beginning as it is too long, too forced and clearly synthesized. But then… The main song is so composed again. Lead guitar with delays, nice chorussy riffs. drum and bass mixed in beautifully. The synths behave like they need to here, the lead synth don't overact anymore. Nice wah-wah's! The third subsong (starting off with the saxlike sounds pumping into a speedmetallike end) is… missing. Char7ie chose not to incorporate that, but end on a high leadsolo. Which is perfectly understandable, as i didn't see the point of that part of the original mod as well. Overall: Stunning guitarwork, high production value, great programming. Push back synths were needed, smooth out the intro, and we have a worthy original mix! |
