Richard Joseph - Tribute Artwork.

Post by Analog-X64 »

Well since there is going to be some kind of Tribute CD...I thought maybe a nice Booklet could be made with some Nice artwork to go along with it. So if anyone else has some ideas they can post them here.

Here is what I have so far...

I'm working on another scene which the theme will be closer to the actual Barbarian game. For now this is what was floating in my head.

Maybe you could surround the tomb with characters from the games he worked on, all paying their respects.

Not a bad idea at all :) I'm not sure what the time line for this is... if I can pull it off or not.

I know some of the games but not all... Got a list of games? or Characters?

Possible characters:

- Witches/pumpkins/spooks from the Cauldron games;
- Wee soccer players from Sensi;
- Medieval chaps from Defender of the Crown;
- Futuristic, armoured sportsmen from Speedball II;
- Chaos Engine steampunk-'era' people;
- James Pond;
- Cannon Fodder soldiers;
- Putty characters;
- The bloke from Antiriad;
- Stifflip and co.

There are loads of others, too. In fact (pretend there's a bit of a pause here), here's a list and another list.

of all them characters it'd probably be nice to go for the more recognisable ones, rimrunner, the chaos engine guy's, james pond, some soldiers/footballers from the world of the little people (might even be an idea to keep them in tiny pixel form to keep authenticity heh) and so on..

your the artist though, so go with what feels right with you the picture as it is is emotive enough as barbarian as far as i remember was his most favorite achievement musically (especially the way we all think its the theme to conan the barbarian when infact its totally different.. a mark of his genius really).

in my mind (and if i was a decent artist) id have had the navvie, thug, gentleman and mercenary (from the chaos engine) carrying the coffin draped over with a commodore insignia flag with all the myriad of characters standing along the set of steps these guy's are walking up as they head towards the golden gates.

See, that's why you need to make a movie where characters takes turns to visit the tomb!

Infamous: I like everything you mentioned, now that would be an epic Scene, but I'm not sure if
I can pull that off. But will see what I can do.

exoskeleton: My Plan is to make a few images to be included with the CD Tribute as CD Cover
or inside a booklet. However It would be nice to make a flash animation with a static
background of what I've already rendered however with two barbarians on each side and have
the sprites from each game come down the middle and leave. I can certainly provide
the background photo if someone wants to do the flash part.

Steve Dee: Thanks :)

Pretty impressive so far. :)

I like the idea of characters from different games but it should be limited to avoid to overladden the cover including all games.

If you stick with a single barbarian, could you try to alter the angle of view a bit: Barbarian looking from left to right (tomb, grave, whatever), so you have him almost from his right, more of his back. Accent on the sword (reflection?). The double-bladed axe is way too dominant for my taste. But that's just my imagination, you'll find a solution for sure.

Did our fallen comrade had a favorite animal? Maybe you could add that animal sitting on the tomb or standing at the side as a kind of totem.

Man, I really regret I hadn't the chance to see him in person. Well, will I ever see anybody in person? :roll:
All is lost.

I'm reconsidering the whole coffin scene and go for a more if you can call it cheerful image more something along the lines of an in game image.
