Optical media can rot in as short a time as magnetic media

It's obvious to me why this is just an open secret. After all, if each new wonder format isn't touted as indestructable, or lasting ' a lifetime', people are going to feel 'Bilked'. Indeed, if the last wonder format was also indestructable, the new one should be too. And so the lies continue, result...

Land Of Hope And Glory

Everybody knows this, especially the refrain:

Have a nice whistle and wave a flag.

A miniscule mystery

I wonder how many studio owners actually bothered to automate the Studiomaster mixers with their 64s, particularly given the review of the software: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.braisher/Studiomaster.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.braisher/stpt2.jpg http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mic...

Sonus Super Sequencer review

I had a pleasant little find whilst thumbing through my old studio magazines, books I keep just as proudly as my copies of The Games Machine and other interesting publications: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.braisher/Sonus.jpg That is the review for Sonus Super Sequencer, in amongst an 8-bit s...

Which TV favourites should have graced the 64?

We've had Knight Rider and Blockbusters and even Bob's Full House and the Krypton Factor. But I'd've loved to have had in my collection a version of Quincy ME: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTwFLsaMDFQ I'd be the last one to claim that it's the most polished and professional-looking pastiche, but I...

Re: They got THAT from the BBC Micro....?

Well they do say that imitation's the best form of flattery. Pity the Beeb didn't have something like the SID in it because it was a solid, reliable, popular low maintainance machine as used by the BBC. Maybe, just perhaps, it would then have been a fairly commonplace recording studio tool predating...

Another nod to the C64 world from the Beebies: http://www.stairwaytohell.com/music/sidsnmidis.html Evidence of BBC MIDI, though no MIDI synth software as far as i can see (though the closest would have been the AMPLE system): http://bbcmicro.net/old-8bs/seemisc.htm http://www.ditdotdat.org/bigcity/2...

Re: They got THAT from the BBC Micro....?

Fancy! I'm still impressed because my angle is that Firetrack is a lot more polished compared to the usual Beeb offerings. Much more like the C64.

They got THAT from the BBC Micro....?

One of the great forgotten games, FIRETRACK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bxdd2_qrpg. I can't believe how similar it is to the Commodore 64 version. It moves the same, looks very close and even the music sounds very similar too. The BBC Micro games I usually saw were very basic in sound and colou...

You've done it again! This would be good on television too.

Re: Unnamed original composition

I can just hear that music on some moody TV drama. Bobs along very nicely.

Can you do some music in Howard Goodall or Ronnie Hazelhurst's style, a complete melodious part in about 45 seconds-two minutes? Apparently it's not as easy as it seems!

You could probably earn out of this.

Musical Interlude

On another thread it seems as if I raised a few heckles by saying we used to be indifferent to the old game themes. I know I used to. So here's a nice little video to enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZCm6DdKVp0 Roughly by the time this game came out I used to plug my 64 through the hi-fi and h...

Re: Space Invaders

You can probably do more with it on the GS. The Amiga one is smoother and easier to operate than its C64 counterpart. But even then by the time I reach level 15 (I think), the quicker pace, over-meticulous movement requirement and sluggish joystick response always got me killed so often it just wasn...

Re: PEEK (788)

The VIC20 handbook told me to do it, way back in the early 90s when I discovered a copy. Whenever I use the poke, it either crashes the micro' or it just blanks the screen and gives you the cursor. (Worked on the PET too.) I've used it to crash or freeze one or two of my own programs when you reach ...
