Voting.

Post by Sonic Wanderer »

How come *nobody* that gives a bad vote ever enters any replies in the forum?

Positive feedback always shows, but never negative.
After watching my OceanLoader 4.5 first getting all-time-crap votes due to tactical voting, and then rising, just to steadily go down again after 18-20 votes, I have come to the conclution that several more 'bad' votes (note: not necessarily tactical ones) must have been put on the tune. I would love to get some input from the ones that dislike the tunes, too. Their feedback is as important as the good ones.

I know it's not the point of the voting system, but seeing your tune falling in virtual popularity is very discouraging. And not nowing what is wrong with it makes me wonder if my work is of such low overall standard, it's not worth puting any real effort into it, as it can't get any better anyway.

It's usually yellow smileys that do the damage to a rating, I've found. Some people just react with a big "meh" to virtually anything.

Aha, didn't know that. Good to have in mind I guess.

Hmmm... was that some sort of critique or a general statement on the con-voters that don't give their vivion or input (as this thread generally was started to point out)?

Btw. You didn't tell me what you thought of the final on Druid2. =)

The reviews section really should help the musicians out a great deal here. I guess using a messageboard to give feeback is more personal than the reviews system. I for example prefer to use the review system to voice my feedback and i'm not scared to voice the truth. Tho using the messageboard to voice my opinions makes me a little uncomfortable as it could be taken in a different light, maybe even disrespectful. Plus people who use the messageboard to give their opinions open them up to flaming if their opinion isn't with the majority consensus.

Unfortunately where this reviewing system fails is that there just isn't enough contributors to it. The review system is a great way to give feedback.

What really annoys me more than anything is people who complain they don't have any feedback but don't give others feedback. I mean doesn't it work two ways?

I heard the beta, haven't heard the final yet. But I've got it from the rKo queue this morning.

Will listen out.

Hmmm... yeah, maybe I should give more reviews, but that's not what I was getting at here. If you check the Review section, the positive reviews are still more in number than negative ones.

What I was trying to do, was to point out that the con-voters seldom make their point heard. It would be very valuable to get some input from those that has something negative to say, too.

I was not being a nagging idiot, if that's what you think.

oh, and Chris:

Looking forward to your feedback. Don't feel forced. I just kindly *asked* for your input, it is not necessary if you're too busy with other things. =)

Sorry Soniq, that message wasn't aimed at you it was just a general observation.

i guess human nature takes over with the reviews. people tend to write about things they like rather than what they don't. I personally will write on both counts regardless. but i have noticed many don't write bad reviews. Afterall when they do they get slated for it by many people.

if we can just accept that someone doesn't like something for criticising in a review without getting an ear bashing for it then maybe more people would be more forthcomming.

Many people remain annonymous i reckon for this reason.

Give up guys.

Guys,

We've had this before, several times. And I lost every time.

The discussion won't help anyone. If anything, it made me feel even more discouraged after it. So, Sonic (Neil, "Soniq" - that's me :) ), don't worry about it, keep going and have fun with what you do. You're a gifted dude and we enjoy your work. It won't help you wondering why "the system" doesn't work - it does really, Neil and Markus have done a lot to make sure of that. But sometimes, there are those unnerving strange things in the rating system that will never change. The forum and charts are full of fans, anti-fans, experts and not so experts. And some people vote by sympathy, no doubt about that and vice versa.

Oh, and nobody likes to point fingers at someone in public. So you'll always eee less of those negative reviews or views in the forum. That's all.

Have a great remaining week end.

It's every time the same with votings and reviews...

I vote mostly for tracks which I really like.... but somtimes if
a track is really crap (for my ears), I must admit that I give a
bad vote... BUT it never doesn't matter what a style a track had...

I think it's the wrong way if ppl vote for everything, also for tracks
they didn't d/l......

Ok. Maybe I shouldn't pay that much attention to the voting rates, but I would still love to spank those who con-vote for tactical purspose.
Thank you for the kind words, Rafael. =)

I'll keep 'em coming.

Three things:

* This topic is apparently far too sensitive to discuss. Therefore this thread should hereby get locked, and the key thrown away.
* I should never have used my own tune as reference.
* It might be best to stay in the background of things onwards, to avoid stepping on peoples toes and thereby cause unwanted, misguided uncalled-for outbursts of unpleasant childish personal backstabs.
