River Don has burst it's banks in Sheffield (Brightside) near Meadow Hall and the situation there is GRAVE.
It rose 4 feet in less than 10 mins and people are being airlifted from a collapsing building, and it's a race against time. Cars floating down the street and a building has exploded.
about 10 areas of Doncaster have been evacuated due to the river Don bursting it's banks. A dam in Rotherham is close to collapse. If that goes then it'll cause massive destruction including a wipeout of an Electricity plant and swelling the River Don even more.
It's still critical here! Although i'm reasonably safe from Don.
Never seen anything like this before. I still can't get into many many areas of Donny including some motorways and main roads and about 40 schools are closed.
The forcast is for more rain from tomorrow too.
And yes, thats wombwell although Catcliffe is worse hit; under about 6 feet of water.

Indeed it is. Just been watching a news special on ITV1, and this is how Catcliffe looks at the moment:
Scary stuff, and the water's still rising there. It's gone down in Sheffield in a fair number of parts but the place looks a mess to be honest.
I just hope you manage not to be hit by any flood waters, that would be disastrous to say the least. If you could get out of Donny in any way, you'd be quite welcome to stay over here till it clears up.
Ouch that looks like its getting serious. Tas do join waz and when you both got wet feet just remember i'm Dutch and can handle a flood. But more to the point the pubs stay open longer
Do take care mr. tas i hope you get lucky
Old programmers never die, they just get lazy and distracted.
Waz - that picture reminds me of the huge flood we had here in 1993 - a whole housing development had to be evacuated as the river tay burst its banks.....no fun whatsoever.....
It's perfectly fine up there.. Anything north of Yorkshire isn't affected - Although it is very cold up there at the moment so i'd take some woolies
Amazingly we are still suffering in Doncaster.. The situation has improved in sheffield and Rotherham but due to the delay effect from the Rivers it's really now it's started really effecting us. The entire villages of Toll Bar, Arksey, bentley and Almholme are under water aswell as Thorpe marsh power station (The army have been called in to rescue it).

This was Wakefield on Monday as I was crawling around the city looking for an exit that wasnt blocked off (took 2 hours to find one). Note the swan in the first pic.
