Introduction & Works in Progress

Post by Phrygian »

Good day everyone, this is my first post.

Little introduction:
38, Male, Turkey. Father was a musician, i'm a mining engineer playing some instruments. I played commodore when I was a child a lot and those tunes are engraved into my brain. I love listening to SID (which a little people on earth understand why) and wanted them to be playing in many different forms, genres etc. Remix Kwed was an enough platform with a lot of good music for the games I played. Until i found there were either no remixes done for some games I wanted to listen remixed or, remixed in the way as I would like to listen. That is when i found myself fiddling with music softwares, and that is why i am uploading some remixes myself.

I listed down some early stage work below those may be so early to comment on indeed. Plus, i listed my workflow here. But what i would like to know your workflow. I'd appreciate you to comment mine also:

- Get the notes: mostly, because of time issues Sid2Mid, yes, i do not feel cheap. Life grants too little time for me apart from work, to write the score from scratch. Sometimes i play with my own instruments (bağlama, kaval, ney). Sometimes.
- Decide the genre: that is how i feel like the music shall flow
- Replace or (play) the instruments: in accordance with the genre i decided in previous step. Most of the time, the synths does not stay as is. You know, there are a hell of control parameters inside any generator.
- Write some drum scores: commodore drums are mostly scored in a hard way to be easily replaced, or i may use some handy loops
- Add something of yourself: to break the straightforward instrumental replacing, i put some intermediate scores, legatos, portamentos, vibratos, strums in between here and there, that does give the flavor to the genre. For example Turkish music have a lot of legatos with blow and string instruments, i reflect that into the tune if indeed some local instruments i have used.
- Add more: intros, outros, sometimes some re-placement of notes, or even some other totally different progressions from different cultures.
- Level up the velocities: per note if necessary, and automations are very useful here.
- Mastering: Unfortunately i acquired my reference headphones in 2021 was using some iPhone plugs before so if you did like the mastering before, that is a hell of a luck.

You may skip the paragraph below, i forgot digging here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9470
Another thing is the synthesizers that you really would suggest for the remixes. It is difficult to dig tru the sets. The only way is you remember the sample, tone whatsoever. Even naming them is pain you know (I have seen an synth preset named Darth Wader Puking to a Cat, oh cmon...). So what are yours and how do you use them? (I have a lot in the pocket didn't want to write down each of them. Also I can use Kontakt plugins).

PS: It is ok for me if you link another thread for your comments and answers.
PPS: My username was already taken unfortunately so I had to use this one with TR suffix.

Thanks for reading until the end.
Regards.

In terms of remixing or in general? Well, I only made one remix within the last 9 years, but if I would like to make a remix again, I would choose a song which fits to my music style. Then I would recreate it from scratch and probably I would change some parts. I usually begin with the "main theme" and then build all the rest of the song around it, but it depends on my mood, the song and of course the ideas coming in. :)

You should finish your Samurai Warrior remix, sounds great. I also have an unfinished Samurai Warrior remix on my hard disk. Maybe I should finish it one day, but I would like to simplify the theme to the first part. Anyway, nice work, keep 'em coming.

I get that you don’t want your identity to be public, and I don’t have a problem with people in the C64 remix community using aliases (after all, it’s been a tradition in the C64 scene since the early 80s). That said, your choice of the handle "Anonymous" could make people believe the remixes are unattributed/uncredited tunes, rather than the works of a single artist, and that it is possible to submit tunes to a catch-all unknown remixers account. I emailed you about this back in January, but never heard back from you. If you signed up using a “burner” email address, please use the feedback link on RKO to let me know an address where you can be reached.

Either way, I’m also using this forum to let you know that I’m changing your RKO artist name to “AnonymousTR”, since it’s a little bit less, well .... anonymous. Also, you’re clearly okay with using “AnonymousTR” here on R64, so I don’t expect any drama from the change. :)

Hello Jan;

No no it isn't like that, the artist name I used is Anonymous not for becoming anonymous, just an alias. Been nearly 10 years since i registered that name and you know what, i don't remember why i picked that.

That is my full profile below:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/bar%C4%B1%C ... -a2108225/

Sorry for missing the email, i'll dig up and send you a reply for a proper change.

Best regards.

Calling yourself Anonymous is pretty confusing branding.

The matter has been settled amicably and I for one welcome our newly rebranded (drummroll)... Phrygian.
