Re: The End of Retro Gamer

it seems that livepublishing went into administration on monday 22nd august anyone else lost money mid subscription? Nope, but I was always tempted to take out a sub - glad I didn't  You can always make your money back on Ebay though, as issues seem to be going for very silly prices right now...

A clue...

OK - here's a clue (well, several actually).

(Visualise a chequered floor, dancing dwarf and cheesy lift music)...

LOL! My step daughter went nuts on TLB about a year ago - we had to watch it about 10 times a day for months, so I kinda had an unfair advantage there :) OK, here's a nice easy one (if you've seen it, of course): "I thought I heard a stranger. We've got chicken tonight. Strangest damn things. T...

very well made , tonka! Thanks - not bad for a beginner, huh? ;) I tend to use envelopes rather than LFO's - I find you get more control (esp if you are using Albino or Quadrasid) Ref your request - I will try! I have only ever re-created the ninja sound on Quadrasid and a Cheetah MS6 before now. I...

Good advice, Chris - think I'll try a few of those myself! Now for my advice - smash up your modem with a very big hammer, tie the remains to a brick and throw it in the river  Seriously though, the internet/emails are my main source of distraction when trying to complete - well, just about any...

Thingy noises for download

OJ (and anyone else who is interested). I have attempted to re-create the TBB boing sound on a couple of VST's. The best one is done on the Retro GS 01 synth - (good little synth - demo can be D/L'd here): http://www.simple-media.co.uk/music/vsti/files/Retro-GS01-Demo.zip And another on Pro 53 (not ...

Thing bounces back

I'm 99.9% it is 2 synced oscillators, not ring modulation... Ring mod would sound more metalic (like the Wizball burbles)... 2 oscillators are synced together, 1 oscillators pitch is plain and 1 oscillators pitch is swept from low to high. *Probably* square waves with varying degrees of pulse width ...

LAME VBR has consistently been found to be the best quality, but quite big file sizes (and I am suspicious of the stereo spectrum being slightly reduced).

Fraunhoffer/Audioactive is STILL the tops for 128kb. Don't use the FHG codec in Cool Edit or Music Match 'cos they are BUGGY!

Just got an email back from Hardsid - looks like it may be a fault after all... Said that I shouldn't panic as if the card is faulty they will replace it immediatley :D Now I gotta go and record a bunch of Sids for them to listen to... It's a hard job, but I guess someone's gotta do it! Tonka

Cheers Cris - will try all of those.

Re-insalled the drivers and the timing is OK now, but there are still notes missing out and those 'birds' in Wizball

I will let you know what happens :?

Hardsid Problems...

Hi all. Just recieved my new Hardsid Quatro and it either appears to be playing up VERY badly, or ther has been a huge step backwards from the ISA version. The timing is WELL dodgy, sounding like an overloaded cheap midi sequencer, and certain songs just sound far 'less than good'! For instance, I d...

Hmm... Not certain of that - can anyone else confirm this? I know it is now a cycle based emulator (as is Re-sid), but it certainly doesn't sound as good as the Re-sid emulation that can be found in the new version of vice. The main problem is the lack of the 'oversampling' option without which, man...
