I'm 99.9% it is 2 synced oscillators, not ring modulation... LAME VBR has consistently been found to be the best quality, but quite big file sizes (and I am suspicious of the stereo spectrum being slightly reduced).

Fraunhoffer/Audioactive is STILL the tops for 128kb. Don't use the FHG codec in Cool Edit or Music Match 'cos they are BUGGY!

Just got an email back from Hardsid - looks like it may be a fault after all... Said that I shouldn't panic as if the card is faulty they will replace it immediatley :D Now I gotta go and record a bunch of Sids for them to listen to...
